While at Gibeon, God appeared to Solomon in a dream and asked, “What do you want Me to give you?” Solomon explained to God that he had been placed onto the throne, but lacked experience and knowledge to lead God’s people. Solomon asked for a discerning heart that would enable him to distinguish between right and wrong. God was pleased with Solomon’s request and he promised to make Solomon the wisest man ever to live.
