The forces of King Rezin of Aram (Syria) and King Pekah of Israel had been unable to overcome Jerusalem and now Ahaz learned that they made an alliance with Ephraim to overpower Judah and establish a buffer against Assyria . This news was troubling to Ahaz; and provided an opportunity for Ahaz to repent for his disobedience to God and his commandments. To help Ahaz understand his need for obedience, God instructed Isaiah to talk to Ahaz. During the conversation, Isaiah revealed events that would occur in the near future and an event that would occur in the distant future. Faced with a choice, Ahaz chose to seek the aid, not of God, but the king of Assyria. [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – Isaiah 7:1-25]
