Jeroboam thought, “If the Israelites go to the Temple in Jerusalem to worship, they may give their allegiance to King Rehoboam; and then they may plot to kill me.” So, Jeroboam made it convenience for the Israelites in the northern kingdom to worship at one of two places…Dan or Bethel. At these sites he erected a golden calf and said, “This is what brought you up out of Egypt.” He appointed priests that were not from the tribe of Levites; but, anybody who wanted to be a priest.
