The widow’s son became ill. His condition became worse and worse until one day he died. First, she lost her husband, now her son. Why? In her despair, she cried out to Elijah, “What have you done? Have you come here to punish me?” “Give me your son,” Elijah replied. He took the child and laid him on a bed and he cried out to God, “Why have you allowed this tragedy to come to this widow I’m staying with? The woman that has treated me with kindness, as you directed.” Three times he cried out to the Lord, asking Him to return the boy’s life. God heard Elijah’s plea and returned the boy’s life to him. Elijah carried the boy to his mother, and said, “Look, your son is alive!” The woman said to Elijah, “Now I know you are a man of God and the words from your mouth are truth.” [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – 1 Kings 17:17-24]
