“Elijah, by this time tomorrow you will be a dead man,” said the messenger sent by Jezebel. This was bone-chilling news and not at all what Elijah had expected. The dramatic display by God at Mt. Carmel, the change in attitude of the Israelites that witnessed the event and the defeat of nine hundred fifty prophets of Baal and Asherah did not change the heart of Jezebel. Quite the opposite. Discouraged and afraid, Elijah fled for safety, in the southern part of Judah, out of the jurisdiction of Ahab and Jezebel. [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – 1 Kings 19:1-5]
