First, Ahab chose to punish the messenger [Micaiah] by putting him into prison. He said, “Keep him there on bread and water until I return safely.” Micaiah said, “If you ever return safely, the Lord has not spoken through me.
Then Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “I’m going into battle in disguise; but I want you to wear your royal robe.” Meanwhile, the king of Aram [Syria] ordered his men to avoid fighting with anyone except the king of Israel.
When the battle began, the Syrians thought Jehoshaphat was the king of Israel and they concentrated on him until they realized he was not King Ahab. Then they stopped pursuing him. Elsewhere, a warrior shot an arrow, randomly into the air and it hit King Ahab between the sections of his armor. When the Israelites realized their king was dead, the order went out, through the army, “Every man to his town! Every man to his land!” [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – 1 Kings 22:26-36]
