Following the death of King Ahab, his son Joram became king of Israel. This seemed like a good time for the king of Moab to stop paying tribute to Israel. Not wanting to lose the revenue, King Joram asked Jehoshaphat if he would join him in battle against the Moabites.
They were joined by the king of Edom; and they began their march to Moab, the long way…through the desert. After seven days there was no water. Jehoshaphat asked if there was a prophet that could inquire of the Lord. Elisha was called for help. When Elisha arrived he asked the king of Israel, “Why didn’t you ask the prophets of your mother and father?” “No!” Joram replied. “Because it was the Lord that called us out here to deliver us to Moab.” Elisha responded, “Except for the respect I have for Jehoshaphat, I wouldn’t pay any attention to you.” Then Elisha relayed a message from the Lord, “Tomorrow the valley will be filled with water and God will deliver Moab into your hands.” [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – 2 Kings 3:4-19]
