“Why stay here until we die?” said the one leper to the other three. “Let’s go over to the camp of the Syrians. Maybe they will feed us.” At dusk they ventured to the edge of the Syrian camp; but, to their surprise, there were no people in the tents. Horses, donkeys, personal items and supplies were all left behind. The Syrians had fled on foot, in a panic, thinking the Israelites had arranged for the Hittite and Egyptian armies to come to their aid. All along the path were weapons and items that were discarded by the Syrians in their haste to leave. The lepers went to the gatekeepers of Samaria and informed them of the news.
