The prophet Jeremiah was given a vision from God, in which he saw two baskets of figs placed in front of the temple of the Lord. One basket contained figs that were very good; the other basket contained figs that were very bad.
The Lord revealed to Jeremiah that the good figs represented the good exiles from Judah that he sent to Babylon. The bad figs represented those that were evil, including Zedekiah and his attendants and those that fled to Egypt. The good exiles would be preserved and returned to Jerusalem at a later time.
