“If you stay here in Jerusalem you will die either in battle, hunger or disease,” Jeremiah told the people of Judah. “But if you surrender,” he continued, “they will let you live.”
Four influential men heard what Jeremiah was saying and they went to the king and said, “Jeremiah should be put to death. He’s causing our people to lose hope, including our soldiers.
“Do with him what you will,” the king said. Wasting no time, they took Jeremiah and lowered him into a cistern located within the courtyard of the palace guard. [Reflection is based on the Bible Reference – Jeremiah 38:1-6]
