I’m Darius, king of the Persian Empire. Some time ago, I received a letter from our governor of Trans-Euphrates, Tattenai. He was asking about the validity of a claim by the people of Jerusalem that they had been authorized by King Cyrus to build a temple in Jerusalem. In searching our records we found a memorandum that referred to the decree and provided funding for the construction. This information was relayed to Governor Tattenai with instructions that they were to provide funding and supplies for the construction workers.
