This day began like any other day, reclining beside the pool…waiting. When I look around, I see familiar faces that were here yesterday and the day before. Some of them as long as I can remember. All of us have one thing in common. We want to be well. We want to do things that normal people do. For 38 years, I’ve wanted to be like other people.
Today was different. A stranger asked me if I wanted to get well. I thought the question a bit unusual; because who out of all the people around me didn’t want to get well. There was something about the man that suggested that the question was more than a polite inquiry. Almost like he was testing me to see how I would answer.
I decided to give him a simple; but honest answer. I told him, “Yes, I want to get well, but when the water in the pool is stirred up by an angel, the first person to enter the water is healed. I’ve never been first. Someone else always gets in before me.”
What happened next, I’ll never forget. He said, “Pick up your mat and walk!” Right then and there I was faced with a choice. Either I could believe that this man had the power to make me well, with his words or I could continue to lay there. I chose to believe in this man; and I got up and I could walk. Later, I learned that this Man was Jesus. He made me well and I believe in Him. [Story is based on the Bible Reference – John 5:1-15]
