Dawn was breaking, and a long toilsome night of commercial fishing resulted in little to show for all the work. I was washing the nets when the Man called Jesus stepped into one of my boats and asked that it be moved away from the shore so that He could speak to a large number of people that had gathered. Something about his voice was special and I willingly moved the boat. I listened closely to what Jesus said; and when He was finished, he simply stated, “Go out where the water is deeper and let your nets down for a catch.”
I was tired from working all night; but His voice and His eyes seemed to reach inside me; and I found myself doing as He said. What happened next, I’ll never forget. When the nets were lowered, there were so many fish that it threatened to tear the nets. I asked for help from my partners; and they brought another boat. Between the two boats we had so many fish that our boats were on the verge of sinking. All this in the place where there no fish a few hours ago. Then Jesus said, “From now on, you’ll fish for people.” I didn’t know what He meant, at the time; but, I left the fishing business and followed Jesus. It has been a new life. I’ve seen with my own eyes how He loved people and how He obeyed His Heavenly Father. [Story based on Bible Reference – Luke 5:1-11]
