The Amalekites attacked the Israelites at a place called Rephidim. Under orders from Moses, Joshua served as the commander of a force of Israelites that went out to do battle with the Amalekites. Meanwhile, Moses took a position, along with Aaron and Hur, on a nearby hill. With the staff of God in his hands, Moses raised them to God. While his hands were raised the battle went in favor of the Israelites. When Moses lowered his hands, the battle went in favor of the Amalekites. With the help of Aaron and Hur, Moses kept his hands raised and the Israelites overcame the Amalekites. [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – Exodus 17:8-13]
