Again, the Israelites were disobedient to God and He delivered them into the hands of the Midianites. The Midianites were so oppressive that the Israelites built shelters in mountain caves. The Midianites camped on their land and ruined their crops. After seven years the Israelites became so impoverished that they asked God for help.
God chose Gideon to be the deliverer. Gideon responded to God that there were others that were better suited for the task. God assured Gideon that He would provide what was necessary to defeat the Midianites. With this assurance, Gideon put out a call for help. Thirty-two thousand responded; but God said that was too many for the task. Only when the number was reduced to three hundred, as selected by God, was God satisfied that the number was correct.
God provided victory over the Midianites and the Israelites were at peace during the lifetime of Gideon, forty years. [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – Judges 6:1-7:25]
