Jacob (renamed Israel by God) was acting in obedience to God by returning to his home. Although God had assured Jacob that He would be with him, Jacob approached the moment of meeting with fear that Esau and his four hundred men would destroy him and his family.
Unknown to Jacob, God had softened Esau’s heart and blessed him with possessions. Esau no longer harbored ill-will about the birthright. When they met, Esau displayed love and tenderness for Jacob. [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – Genesis 33:1-4]
