Jacob sent Joseph to see if things were going well with his bothers and the flocks. When his brothers saw him approaching, they made plans to kill him and tell their father that he was attacked by a wild animal.
Before this plan was completed, however, a group of traders approached. One of the brothers said, “We could make some money, and get rid of him. If we do that we won’t need to kill him. After all he is our brother.”
Another brother said, “Let’s kill a goat and dip his coat in the blood and tell our father that we found the coat and that the body must have been devoured by a wild animal.”
Twenty pieces of silver, from the traders, and Joseph began a new life as a slave. [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – Genesis 37:12-36]
